Summary
Issues related to the Eurocentric vision present in the Venice Charter(VC) and other international documents take on a special character when it comes to vernacular architecture(VA). VC first article stressing the importance of “more modest works” opened a new path for VA studies. This point and other related with different international documents are discussed from a decolonial perspective as the article fundaments. Its objective is to present the results of the research carried out to create the Brazilian Vernacular Architecture Portal. The Portal responded to the need to create a work that would bring together existing studies in the country from its own perspective. Considering the new possibilities generated by information science and information technology, the research brought together not only experts in the field of VA, but also researchers from these last two areas, which gave the work an interdisciplinary perspective. Seeking to add research, researchers and the possibility of constantly updating the material, the option for a digital portal was reached. That option will allow the presentation of results and its search in a more complete, dynamic and comprehensive way and their constant updating. Finally, it is important to clarify that partial or total prints of the work will be allowed. The initial research project provided for a good amount of time for discussions about which regional division should be used in designing the portal. After a series of discussions and meetings dedicated to the topic, two conclusions were reached. First, the entry of information into the portal could be done independently of the prior definition of regional divisions, although always containing location and geographic coordinates. Second, the identification of specific regions effectively suited to the theme could be better provided by the development of the Portal with the progressive systematization of data on Brazilian VA. As a result, this discussion will be resumed when the portal can provide a robust database that allows this analysis. The portal was designed to be a work open to contributions from any researcher. To this end, two measures were required. The first one was to accept contributions only fill in forms. The second one was the establishment of an editorial board that will analyze each contribution submitted before its publication on the portal, similarly to the editorial board of scientific journals. Due to the complexity of vernacular architecture field and its intrinsic social relations create the forms was challenge. There was extensive discussion until the portal was structured into three large groups of information or categories, organized in descending order in terms of encompassing. In other words, if the researcher has information about the social groups that produce the architecture, that is where he should start until he reaches the architecture and its techniques. If not, he can start with the architecture itself or construction techniques. It is important to highlight that the approach of the portal's organizers is that the social dimension and vernacular architecture are inseparable, admitting, however, that there are works that only address one of these dimensions
