Lucília Domingues

Lucília Domingues graduated in Chemical Engineering by University of Porto (1994), with an ERASMUS stay at Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (1994, Barcelona, Spain), obtained the degree of Master of Biotechnology - Bioprocess Engineering (1997, University of Minho) and a Ph.D. in Chemical and Biological Engineering (2001, University of Minho) in collaboration with VTT, Finland, as well as Habilitation in Chemical and Biological Engineering (2018, University of Minho). Currently, she is Associate Professor with Habilitation at the Biological Engineering Department at University of Minho, Director of the Master Course on Biotechnology and Associate Director of the research unit CEB - Centre of Biological Engineering from Minho University. From 2011 to 2016 she was the Director of the PhD course in Chemical and Biological Engineering of the same university. Her main research area is Biochemical Engineering and Biotechnology, in particular, Molecular and Industrial Biotechnology. She leads the Molecular Biotechnology and Microbial Physiology team within the B.Factory – Molecular Biotechnology, Bioreactors and Biofuels research group. The research work developed has been driven by the utilization of molecular biotechnological tools, namely genetic, metabolic, physiological and protein engineering for microbial strain development and intensification of bioprocesses with focus on the utilization of renewable substrates and eco-sustainable production of bio-based chemicals, fuels and/or recombinant proteins with applications on the food, energy, chemical and/or biomedical industries. She has been the leader of 7 national/industrial projects, and participated in other 3 international (2 EU) and 12 national projects. Actually, she is the Co-PI of 3 FCT projects and 6 multiteam projects related with molecular biotechnology and biorefineries development, being responsible for the BBRI6 platform– Molecular Biotechnology for advanced biofuels within the Biomass and Bioenergy Research Infrastructure. She is author/co-author of 2 books, 14 book chapters, 141 papers in peer-reviewed journals (H-index 34, 3776 citations in Scopus on December-2020, ID 35274954900; H-index 42, 6143 citations in GoogleScholar) and more than 100 papers in conferences. She has a large experience in supervision of Master (49 finished), PhD (17 finished) and PostDoc students. She is Associate Editor of Biotechnology for Biofuels, Bioengineered and Biomed Research International. She is a regular Referee of several scientific journals and evaluator of projects for several international agencies being part of the European Science Foundation College of Expert Reviewers.
