Edgar Dutra Zanotto

Materials Engineer - Universidade Federal de São Carlos (1976), MSc Physics-IFSC-USP (1979), Ph.D. Glass Tech-University of Sheffield, UK (1982). Sabbaticals: International School of Polymer Science, Ferrara, Italy, 1992. Visiting professor (Fullbright Fellow) University of Arizona (1987); University of Central Florida (2005), USA. Currently: Senior Professor at Universidade Federal de São Carlos. Zanotto´s work includes fundamental and applied research on crystallization kinetics and properties of glasses and glass-ceramics. The technological branch of Zanotto's team includes projects in partnership with 25 companies and consultancy to over 40 companies. He is interested in the development of vitreous materials with improved or new functionalities. EDZ has published over 300 scientific papers, 21 book chapters, 3 books, 5 book prefaces, filled 30 patents, and advised approximately 90 theses and postdocs. 28 of his ex-students and postdocs became professors or glass researchers. His leadership index is 91%. EDZ is an editor of the Journal of Non-Crystalline Solids, and Advisory Board Member of Int. Mat. Reviews (Key reader), S-Nature App. Sciences, Int. J. Applied Glass Science, BioMed Glasses, Materials Research, Bull. Soc Espanhola Ceramica y Vidrio, Iranian J.M.S&T, and Cerâmica. He is a member of both Brazilian & São Paulo State academy of Science, National Academy of Engineering, The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS), World Academy of Ceramics, Fellow of Fullbright, Soc. Glass Tech, American Cer. Soc., and Brazilian Cer. Soc. Edgar Zanotto chaired 6 of the most important glass congresses, member of Scientific Advisory Board of more than 50 materials and glass congresses, delivered over 400 conference presentations, including approximately 160 invited talks and 35 plenary talks. Zanotto has received 53 science awards. His glass research awards and distinctions include the Zachariasen Award, Gottardi Prize, Morey Award, Foster Prize, Turner, Cooper, and Scholes Lectures, and the "Zanotto Award" created by MRS India. His former consulting positions in academia, industry and society were: Adjunct coordinator of exact sciences and engineering Fapesp; Manager of Fapesp´s Patent Office, President- Scientific Committee Serrapilheira Institute, co-founder of the Brazilian MRS (SBPMat), Chief editor of the periodical Materials Research (13years), Advisory Board member of NSF´s IMI (USA), TAB member O-I (USA), Chair of the Glass and Optical Materials Division American Ceramic Society. Current positions in Brazil : Director of Fapesp´s Cepid-CeRTEV, President of the Council of the São Carlos High Tech Park Foundation; Counselor Emeritus and Director of Brazilian Ceramic Society; Council Member of IMPA and the Serrapilheira Institute. O 2º Simpósio de Engenharia Metalúrgica e de Materiais Sul Fluminense (SEMMat-2020) é um evento idealizado pelo Programa de Pós-Graduação em Engenharia Metalúrgica que ocorre durante a semana acadêmica da Universidade Federal Fluminense. O comitê organizador do evento é composto tanto por docentes quanto por estudantes de graduação e de pós-graduação. Tem como objetivo principal promover o intercâmbio de informações entre pesquisadores, estudantes, engenheiros e técnicos na área de metalurgia e materiais. Visa também estimular o desenvolvimento de atividades científico-tecnológicas de interesse dos pesquisadores da região Sul Fluminense e da comunidade científica em geral.
