Additive Manufacturing of FFF Fiber Reinforced Thermoplastic Composites: Material Properties in Comparison to Traditional Engineering Materials

The present talk discusses FFF-based thermoplastics fiber composite materials, reinforced by both short and continuous fibers, and shows mechanical properties obtained through experiments for two materials. Based on the results achieved and a comparison with 'traditional' engineering materials, application in functional AM components is discussed. Although there is space for further developments, FFF composites may provide interesting engineering solutions, especially when employed through advanced design techniques such as structural optimization.
