Resumo
Conducting and semiconducting polymers have interesting optical and electrical properties that are based on the alternation between single and double bonds in their main linear chain. Such characteristics provide several applications to these materials that range from sensors to photovoltaic cells. For the manufacture of such devices, polythiophenes are often used, being produced in the form of thin films and transferred to different types of substrates. In this context, two thin film production techniques stand out, Langmuir-Blodgett and Langmuir-Schaefer, which allow us a wide control in the organization and thickness of the films. An important optical characterization technique in the study of the molecular organization of thin films is optical anisotropy, which shows the relationship between the increase in anisotropy and the increase in the packing of polythiophene chains in the substrate. In general, an increase in anisotropy can result in a greater absorption of light incident on the substrate in a given direction, as well as an improvement in the transport of charge carriers. The general objective of the project is the study of the morphological properties of thin films of polythiophene manufactured using the Langmuir-Blodgett and Langmuir-Schaefer techniques, as well as its electrical anisotropy regarding the orientation of the deposition of polymeric chains in the ultrathin film, in relation to the orientation of the digits on the interdigitated electrode. The target materials of the study will be the regioregular alkylated derivatives of polythiophene. In addition, the films will be added with stearic acid (amphiphilic molecules). Molecular modeling studies will be carried out in order to assist in the interpretation of the results obtained. Through the study proposed here, it is expected to obtain information related to the structure of organic films that will allow a deeper understanding of the organization of layers of films produced using the Langmuir-Blodgett and Langmuir-Schaefer techniques, the anisotropic characteristics in the films, as well as its effect on the opto-electronic response of devices.
