Summary
Bioming is a promising field which that uses the metabolism of microorganisms to recover metals trapped in the tailings, representing environmentally benign technologies suitable for mining industries. The microbial diversity of mining environments is poorly studied and it is probable that there are species resistant to metals, applicable to environmental bioremediation. The acidophilic bacterium Acidibacillus ferrooxidans ITV01, isolated from an acid stream drained from a chalcopyrite ore pile in northern Brazil. Its draft genome, published and deposited on GenBank (accession number LPVJ00000000), is about 3.16 Mb. This study aimed to manually annotate and mine the ITV01 genome of A. ferrooxidans. Thus, automatic annotation was performed using PATRIC, RNAmmer and tRNAscan-SE, identifying 3,111 genes. Manual curation was performed with BLAST v2.6.0 + (NCBI), PFAM, InterPro, UniProtKB and Artemis for visualization of the genome. Gene clusters of secondary metabolites were identified by antiSMASH 4.0 with “all on”. We were able to assign function to 150 genes previously annotated as hypothetical proteins as for example: ATW55_01350 (contig 36), ATW55_05235 (contig 45) and ATW55_RS00590 (Contig 1), respectively classified as transferase (IPR024932), transcriptional regulator (IPR001647) and a specific dehydrogenase (IPR020829). Nineteen secondary metabolites gene clusters were detected from the genome. These range from agglomerates of biosynthetic genes to terpene and bacteriocin. These results indicate the potential of this specie for biotechnological applications. Also, it is important to highlight that is usually easier to employ endemic organisms for biomining processes as it is the case of A. ferrooxidans ITV01.
