Summary
Brazilian regulations related to aircraft noise are very much based on ICAO’s Doc 9829 (Guidance on the Balanced Approach to Aircraft Noise Management). However, as far as the Development of Noise Exposure Maps and Noise Compatibility Programs is concerned, the local regulation is virtually direct translation from the CFR Part 150 (AIRPORT NOISE COMPATIBILITY PLANNING). The development of an airport’s noise contours is typically based on simplified aeronautical chart trajectories, which, for various technical reasons, may not accurately represent the actual paths followed by aircraft on a daily basis. Considering these factors, this study analyzes real aircraft flight paths, recorded by an ADS-B (Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast) receiver, to construct representative flight paths for noise contour simulations at an airport. This hybrid methodology allows the simulation scenario to more accurately reflect actual aircraft operations while maintaining a practical method for comparing different aircraft fleet compositions at the aerodrome. Additionally, it provides regulatory authorities with a more detailed view of operations and their impact on surrounding communities.
