Summary

Noise pollution is a critical issue in urban environments, caused both by mobility and industry. The European Noise Directive addresses this issue, requiring the preparation and publication of strategic noise maps and management action plans every five years. Although noise mapping software is already available and used, especially testing multiple scenarios and noise mitigation measures is very time consuming. This paper addresses this problem with a GPU based noise calculation approach, including a seamless integration with transportation models. This integration allows for rapid and accurate assessments of noise impacts, facilitating better and more efficient noise action planning. This approach builds on previous work in noise modelling and transportation integration, offering significant improvements in calculation speed and accuracy. Results demonstrate the effectiveness of our strategy in real-world scenarios, bringing city wide calculation times for the city of Amsterdam according to the Dutch calculation method (SRM2) well under one minute. A next step would be to implement the CNOSSOS calculation method to make interactive noise calculations available in the context of the European Noise Directive.
