Summary
Guidelines like the Venice Charter emphasize the concept of integrity through a static, spatial view, overlooking the temporal dimension. This paper aims to highlight the dynamic nature of heritage and to concentrate on the evolution of these sites over time. Jingdezhen, as a site on China's UNESCO World Heritage Tentative List, its comprehensive heritage system should encompass the entire period from the Yuan Dynasty to the Republican era, as well as all spatial dimensions from underground to above ground, but this has not received sufficient attention. This study proposes a dynamic integrity framework, firstly, tracing the heritage elements across different historical periods from historical maps and documents. Secondly, overlays various heritage element types by examining the archaeological layers underground and urban fabrics from different eras above ground, interpreting the diversity and contemporary evolution of Jingdezhen's heritage system. The research resolves the constraints of the Venice Charter's integrity concept by adopting a dynamic perspective through comprehensive mappings of heritage elements across time and space, offering novel insights for heritage preservation and management in Jingdezhen.
