Summary
Corn (Zea mays L.) is the most produced grain in Brazilian agriculture. However, the drought causes negative responses, such as a decrease in stomatal conductance, loss of turgidity, reduction of water potential, and, impairing development and production. A new proposal to mitigate the harmful effects of water deficit is the use of biomolecules such as Acetylcholine (ACh). ACh has action in several morphological and physiological processes, including stomatal conductance and interaction with several phytohormones, providing an increased mass and growth of cultures. This work aimed to evaluate the effects of Acetylcholine on the physiological and productive mechanism of corn under water stress. The experiment was carried out in a greenhouse. Foliar applications with of 1.0 and 2.0 mM of ACh in the R1 phase, under irrigation (control) and water deficit (stress) for 14 days. Biomass, biometrics, and production actions were evaluated. Data were selected for analysis of variance and model means by Tukey's test. Control plants at a dose of 2 mM ACh increased dry mass. Under water deficit, ACh (1 and 2 mMol) promotes an increase in total length. There was an increase in the number of seeds in the control plants with 2 mM of ACh. ACh directly affects physiological parameters and promoted adjustment through stomatal regulation and hydric, contributing to plant growth parameters.
