Workshop: Diversity and Challenges in Doctoral Social Work

We invite you to participate in our workshop titled “Diversity and Challenges in Doctoral Social Work”, taking place on May 14, 2025. This workshop is part of a broader research initiative between Brazil and Scotland, titled: “Mapping the challenges and opportunities to encourage, diversify, and retain social work doctorate candidates”. The study aims to explore perceptions within the profession regarding doctoral studies and identify the barriers and facilitators inherent to pursuing a doctorate in Social Work.

During the workshop, we will present findings from a comprehensive literature review focusing on the challenges and opportunities associated with doctoral studies in Social Work in both Brazil and the global north. We will also share preliminary insights from online surveys conducted with social work doctoral and undergraduate students in Scotland and Brazil, aiming to understand their experiences in accessing and completing doctorates in Social Work.

Designed for a professional audience of stakeholders invested in social work doctoral studies, this 3-hour workshop promises enriching, translated discussions in English and Portuguese, allowing for a wide-ranging and inclusive conversation across different disciplines.
