“Learning and doing women’s health: From patriarchy to empowerment”
Women have always provided health care, but until relatively recently
those roles have been little recognized.
Moreover, for much of this history, women have been viewed as merely as
passive patients, not active participants in health care. The situation today is much different. “Learning and doing women’s health: From patriarchy to empowerment,”
traces the historical role women have played in shaping health care, often as
patients, as well as physicians, nurses, midwives, and other health
professionals. It discusses the social,
cultural, and economic circumstances affecting these dramatic changes.
