The first edition of the Symposium on Structural Biology (SimBE) 2021 will be focused on the molecular mechanisms of human diseases associated with poor protein folding, including cancer and neurodegenerative diseases. With the increased longevity and aging of the human population, the prevalence of age-related disorders keeps increasing. Therefore, it is crucial to unravel the molecular processes that lead to the development of these diseases as this will enable the discovery of novel therapeutic targets.
The event is organized by the National Institute of Structural Biology and Bioimaging (INBEB) and by the Institute of Medical Biochemistry Leopoldo de Meis (IBqM) of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ).
The program will feature Brazilian and foreign researchers known for their important contributions to the field. The main objective is to connect research groups from different countries and, thereby, foster studies focused on the development of strategies that contribute for enabling healthier aging.
