We are pleased to introduce the I International Seminar on Militarization, Circulations and Resistances in Comparative Perspective, which will be carried out in Universidade do Estado do Rio de Janeiro, between the days 02 and 04 September 2025. The seminar is an initiative dedicated to fostering academic exchange between researchers from Brazil and abroad who are dedicated to the study of the dynamics of violence, the militarization of territories and access to rights in contexts marked by practices of armed and institutional control.
The purpose of the event is to bring together, through round tables, working groups, cultural activities and opening and closing conferences, specialists, students from different levels of training and civil society organizations, promoting a critical, interdisciplinary and comparative debate on the phenomenon of militarization in the contemporary world.
The seminar seeks to consolidate a space for the production of critical and collaborative knowledge, which dialogues both with social theories and with the practices developed by collectives, social movements and institutions committed to guaranteeing rights in militarized territories. The initiative also aims to contribute to the internationalization processes of research developed in Brazil and to the training of qualified staff to work in this strategic field.
