The world needs new development and industrialization
models that are characterized by respect for the environment and sustainability.
The construction industry is at the forefront of facing today's challenges, providing
durable, efficient and effective infrastructure systems, affordable housing,
clean water, energy, communication and sanitation, fundamental to economic
prosperity, social justice, political stability and quality of life for the
planet's inhabitants.
Many non-conventional materials in the 21st century
have their roots in the vernacular of traditional construction, including raw
earth, natural materials such as bamboo, straw and vegetable fibres. For these
traditional materials and techniques, to meet modern construction, cost and
performance demands, further development, innovative solutions and systematic
scientific research are required. Meanwhile, industrialized materials,
including steel and concrete, must also aim to reduce impacts on the
environment.
The NOCMAT Conference series, which is now in its 19th
edition, has proven to be one of the main forums where academics and
governmental and non-governmental agencies seek to present and discuss
innovations in energy-efficient technologies, new materials, building
technologies such as those with bamboo, natural fibers, raw earth, different
types of waste, seeking economical, durable, energy-efficient,
environment-friendly and sustainable engineering. The development of innovative
solutions, non-conventional materials and appropriate technologies will also
play an important role in eradicating poverty, creating jobs, forming a global
partnership for economic progress and social stability.
This 19th edition of NOCMAT will take place in João
Pessoa, one of the oldest cities in Brazil, which welcomes everyone with
kindness.
