IX Congresso Latino-Americano de Gênero e Religião

The Gender and Religion Program at Faculdades EST (PGR-EST) and the Gender and Religion Research Group (NPG) of the Graduate Program in Theology are enthusiastically preparing the IX Latin American Congress on Gender and Religion. The event will take place at Faculdades EST, in São Leopoldo/RS, Brazil, between August 26 and 29, 2025.

Earth interconnects science and spirituality and sustains the diversity of life. Feminist theologies and gender and sexuality studies introduce a critical perspective that relates the exploitation of the Earth to the exploitation of women's bodies. Historically, both earth and the body have been treated as objects subject to control, domination and violence. Despite this, in various religious expressions the symbolism of earth is associated with the beginning and maintenance of life, creation, ancestry, and the promise of liberation.

Bread denounces the unequal relations around food production, access and distribution. On the other hand, it refers to the diverse cultural riches of knowledge and flavors; “agroecological” and agroforestry initiatives; models of fair, supportive and sustainable economy; and a symbol of a committed and communal spirituality.

Peace highlights situations of conflict, wars and catastrophes, in addition to the high rates of violence against girls and women, black people, indigenous people, sexual and gender dissident people, and young people. It is necessary to name the structures and behaviors that maintain relationships of inequality, injustice and violence, and only then, can we deconstruct and build conditions so that we can experience life to its fullest.
