About the event

The event "Frontiers in Mathematics: A Brazil–China Meeting on Opportunities for Undergraduate Students and Young Researchers", to be held on September 22–23, 2026, is jointly organized by the Instituto de Matemática e Estatística of Universidade do Estado do Rio de Janeiro (IME-UERJ) and the Shanghai Institute for Mathematics and Interdisciplinary Sciences (SIMIS). It aims to bring together undergraduate students, master's students, young researchers, and faculty members in an academic environment that promotes scientific exchange, collaboration, and professional development.

The program will feature accessible talks by researchers from Brazil and China, introducing participants to current research directions in mathematics and related interdisciplinary fields. The event is designed to help students explore research areas of interest and gain insight into academic opportunities available at different stages of their careers.

A special component of the meeting will be the presentation of the graduate programs and research activities of SIMIS. Participants will have the opportunity to learn about its academic environment, research groups, international collaborations, scholarships, and other forms of support available for students pursuing advanced studies.

The event will also include a Student Poster Session, where the students can present their ongoing work, exchange ideas, receive feedback from researchers, and interact with students from different institutions.

The meeting aims to foster connections among students, researchers, and institutions, creating opportunities for networking, future collaborations, and international academic exchange. We hope that it will inspire the next generation of mathematicians and researchers while contributing to the strengthening of scientific ties between Brazil and China.

Submission Guidelines

To present your work at the Frontiers in Mathematics: A Brazil–China Meeting on Opportunities for Undergraduate Students and Young Researchers, please follow the instructions below:

  1. Register all authors through the event webpage.

  2. The Extended Abstract template is available in both English and Portuguese. Download the English version here and the Portuguese version aqui.

  3. Prepare your submission according to the template. The extended abstract must not exceed two pages and must be submitted as a PDF file.

  4. Submit your extended abstract through the event platform by August 31, 2026.

  5. During the submission process, list all authors of the work.

  6. The platform requires the upload of two PDF files:

    • Identified version: including the names of the authors, affiliations, advisors (if applicable), and any other identifying information.

    • Anonymous version: containing no information that could identify the authors or their institutions.

  7. Authors will be notified by e-mail regarding the acceptance of their submission.

Student Poster Session Guidelines

Accepted works will be presented during the Student Poster Session.

The poster layout is free, and posters previously presented at other events may also be used. Participants who wish to prepare a new poster specifically for this event may use one of the available templates:

For printing, we recommend the banner format (80 cm × 120 cm).

At least one author must be present during the Student Poster Session to present the work.

We strongly encourage authors to prepare both the extended abstract and the poster in English. However, submissions and posters in Portuguese will also be accepted. Presentations may be given in either Portuguese or English.

Originality

Previously presented work, ongoing research, undergraduate research projects, and master's research are welcome. Original unpublished results are encouraged but are not required.

Certificates

Certificates will be issued only to authors who are registered for the event.
