This day was created by ITLA (International Toy Library Association), for some years now the month of May has been dedicated to the celebration of play and the appreciation of play in different countries of the world, including in Brazil. Also, the 6° ECDIB also proposes to bring discussions and reflections on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) established by the United Nations (UN) as the biggest global challenge and an indispensable requirement for sustainable development of the planet.
Playing is a basic right of the child. Following the objectives of the Universal Declaration of the Rights of the Child in 1959, approved by the United Nations (UN). We highlight, within the set of these factors, the central value of playing in childhood is in itself a form of relationship of the child with himself, with others and with his environment. Playing, especially in public spaces, favors multiculturalism, diversity, inclusion, sociability, enriches the children's informational universe, fostering peaceful relationships.
Play, in its different forms, certainly plays an essential role in the construction of peaceful relationships, contributing positively to human development through the different ways in which it is presented, whether in the simplest or the most sophisticated traditional games, in construction games, in make-believe games, in educational games and toys and in the different games, in cooperative or competitive games, in the most varied cultural manifestations and even in the elaboration of playful materials, whether structured or unstructured.
Despite constituting an advance, the playful and cultural activities, of free play, of playing for the pleasure of playing, still do not have the due importance of the different actors that make up the Brazilian scenario. We want this event to be a reference for universities, schools, city halls, families and the community as a whole, and above all, to be seen as a day of discovery, fantasy, learning, inclusion, citizenship, interactions and playfulness. For us, a child who plays is a happy child. Because playing is a right.
