O diabetes é um grande desafio global de saúde, exigindo abordagens abrangentes que vão além do controle glicêmico e considerem dieta, estilo de vida, prevenção e condições individuais de saúde. Nesse contexto, o Ayurveda oferece uma perspectiva tradicional e multidimensional que pode contribuir para uma discussão mais ampla sobre prevenção e manejo do diabetes.
O webinar "Diabetes e Ayurveda: Tradição, Conhecimento e Novas Perspectivas" tem como objetivo promover um intercâmbio acadêmico e científico entre Brasil e Índia, reunindo perspectivas sobre Ayurveda, diabetes, estilo de vida e nutrição, incentivando o diálogo entre o conhecimento tradicional, a pesquisa científica contemporânea e os desafios atuais de saúde.
Diabetes is a major global health challenge, requiring comprehensive approaches that go beyond glycemic control and consider diet, lifestyle, prevention, and individual health conditions. In this context, Ayurveda offers a traditional and holistic perspective that can contribute to a broader discussion on diabetes prevention and management.
The webinar “Diabetes and Ayurveda: Tradition, Knowledge, and New Perspectives” aims to promote academic and scientific exchange between Brazil and India by bringing together perspectives on Ayurveda, diabetes, lifestyle, and nutrition, and fostering dialogue between traditional knowledge, contemporary scientific research, and current health challenges.

Dra. Asmita A. Wele
A Professora Dra. Asmita Wele é reconhecida no campo da pesquisa em Ayurveda, tendo como áreas de especialização Rasashastra e Bhaishajyakalpana. Atualmente, atua como Professora Titular da Cátedra de Ayurveda no National Institute of Complementary Medicine (NICM), da Western Sydney University, na Austrália, e também no College of Ayurveda and Research Center do Dr. D. Y. Patil Vidyapeeth (Deemed to be University), em Pune, Índia. Concluiu com sucesso um período de três anos como professora titular de cátedra de Ayurveda na Hungria e recebeu o título de Professora Honorária da University of Debrecen, na Hungria.
Dr. Girish Tillu
Pesquisador Principal do AYUSH Center of Excellence, Department of Health Sciences – Savitribai Phule Pune University, e Editor Executivo do Journal of Ayurveda and Integrative Medicine. Médico de formação e pesquisador por profissão, o Vaidya Scientist Girish Tillu concluiu seu M.D. em Dravyaguna Vidnyan (Farmacologia Ayurvédica) e Ph.D. em Ciências da Saúde. Sua trajetória combina o conhecimento tradicional e a pesquisa biomédica, com mais de 20 anos de experiência em um ambiente interdisciplinar. Atualmente, o Dr. Girish lidera o grupo de pesquisa do Center for Complementary and Integrative Health em diversos projetos de pesquisa inovadores, incluindo estudos pré-clínicos e ensaios clínicos. Ministra cursos sobre os sistemas AYUSH, saúde integrativa, dietética integrativa, ensaios clínicos e bioética.
Laura Pires
Laura Pires é nutricionista, pós-graduada em Fitoterapia, Gerontologia, Saúde Mental e Nutrição Estética e Saúde da Mulher. Pós-graduanda em Saúde gastrointestinal. É terapeuta e professora de Ayurveda com aprofundamento em Saúde da Mulher, Nutrição e Culinária Ayurvédica pela International Academy of Ayurveda, na Índia. Ao longo de sua trajetória, encontrou na Ciência da Vida um caminho de autocuidado e saúde e, desde então, une Ayurveda e a nutrição moderna para inspirar as pessoas em suas ver dadeiras transformações em busca de uma vida saudável. É autora dos livros O sabor da harmonia: Receitas Ayurvédicas para o bem-estar, Nutrindo seus sentidos: Receitas Ayurvédicas para encontrar o equilíbrio e Longevidade: Nutrição e ayurveda para um envelhecer ativo, todos publicados pela Rocco.
Dr. Nina Claudia Barboza da Silva
Bióloga, PhD em Biotecnologia Vegetal, com pós-doutorado em Etnobotânica e formação em Ayurveda pela Arya Vaidya Pharmacy (AVP) e pela Associação Brasileira de Ayurveda (ABRA). É professora e pesquisadora da Faculdade de Farmácia da Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), onde coordena o Laboratório de Botânica Aplicada, desenvolvendo pesquisas em etnobotânica, plantas medicinais, Ayurveda e agroecologia. Atua também na pós-graduação da UFRJ e da UERJ. Recentemente, realizou missão científica na Dr. D. Y. Patil Vidyapeeth, em Pune, Índia, e coordena os acordos de cooperação acadêmica da UFRJ com o All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA) e a Dr. D. Y. Patil Vidyapeeth (DPU), na Índia.

Dra. Asmita A. Wele
Professor Dr. Asmita Wele is a wel-known name in the field of Research of Ayurveda along with her core area Rasashastra and Bhaishajyakalpana. Currently she has been appointed as Ayurveda Chair Professor at the National Institute of Complementary Medicine (NICM) at Western Sydney University, Australia and also at College of Ayurveda and Research Center of Dr. D. Y. Patil Vidyapeeth (Deemed to be University) in Pune, India. Principal Investigator - AYUSH Center of Excellence, Department of Health Sciences - Savitribai Phule Pune University anda Executive Editor- Journal of Ayurveda and Integrative Medicine.A doctor by training and a researcher by profession, Vaidya Scientist Girish Tillu completed his M.D. in Dravyaguna Vidynan (Ayurveda Pharmacology) and Ph.D. in Health Sciences. He is a blend of traditional knowledge and biomedical research with more than 20 years of experience in an interdisciplinary environment. Dr. Girish currently leads the research group at the Center for Complementary and Integrative Health for various innovative research projects, including preclinical studies and clinical trials. He teaches courses on AYUSH systems, integrative health, integrative dietetics, clinical trials, and bioethics.
Laura Pires
Laura Pires is a nutritionist with postgraduate qualifications in Phytotherapy, Gerontology, Mental Health, Aesthetic Nutrition and Women’s Health. She is currently pursuing a postgraduate degree in Gastrointestinal Health. She is an Ayurveda therapist and teacher, with advanced training in Women’s Health, Nutrition, and Ayurvedic Cooking from the International Academy of Ayurveda in India. Throughout her career, she has found in the Science of Life a path toward self-care and health. Since then, she has combined Ayurveda with modern nutrition to inspire people in their own transformations toward a healthier life. She is the author of O Sabor da Harmonia: Receitas Ayurvédicas para o Bem-Estar, Nutrindo Seus Sentidos: Receitas Ayurvédicas para Encontrar o Equilíbrio, and Longevidade: Nutrição e Ayurveda para um Envelhecer Ativo, all published by Rocco.

Biologist, Ph.D. in Plant Biotechnology, with postdoctoral training in Ethnobotany and training in Ayurveda from Arya Vaidya Pharmacy (AVP) and the Brazilian Ayurveda Association (ABRA). She is a professor and researcher at the School of Pharmacy of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), where she coordinates the Applied Botany Laboratory, conducting research in ethnobotany, medicinal plants, Ayurveda, and agroecology. She also teaches in the graduate programs at UFRJ and UERJ. She recently undertook a scientific mission at Dr. D. Y. Patil Vidyapeeth in Pune, India, and coordinates UFRJ’s academic cooperation agreements with the All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA) and Dr. D. Y. Patil Vidyapeeth (DPU) in India.
