Transculturality establishes a rupture with homogenizing and separatist views that insist on establishing "pure" categories in symbolic, linguistic, and epistemological terms. It allows them to be thought of as mixtures and permutations, capable of creating areas for the circulation of desire.
The Rio de Janeiro International Conference "LABAN 2024: Transculturality and Translation" aims to reconsider what is articulated as trans, in the sense of crossing lines, transcending borders, translating differences, and moving between languages and cultures. In this sense, transculturality and translation establish a sharing, but also interventions, subversions, contributions, and exchanges that occur in different political, geographical, and ideological contexts.
Transculturality is perceived as a dramaturgic dynamic that favors the production of diversity and is key for the understanding of translation as a field of research. Issues of bilingualism, hybridism, and borders, as well as the translator's inevitable involvement in the translation process, reflect the multiplicity of perspectives and reaffirm translation as an event that moves through (other) territories, revealing differences and the overflow of languages and cultures.
Topics of
interest for the LABAN 2024 International Conference include, but are
not limited to:
· Theoretical and/or methodological
parameters that emphasize how the Laban and Bartenieff concepts can inform or
facilitate processes of mobilities and transits.
· Laban approaches that consider the
dynamics of mobilities in the production of cultural diversity.
· How the Laban/Bartenieff System offer
inroads to perceive diversity as an expression of cultural complexity.
· Translation and transformation of
the LB movement theories, and issues related to translation and original texts.
· LBMS today: Cultural identity and
forms of resistance to hegemonic ideologies.
This thematic disposition intends to present possible paths for the presentation of papers, performances, and workshops, among which various types of transits and fusions are expected, mapping possible connections, and intensifying equality in the Labanian realm.
