The Universidade Estadual do Maranhão Campus Santa Inês, through the Department of Languages and Pedagogy, presents the 1st National Congress of Linguistic and Ethnocultural Diversity (I CONADILE) to be held from June 23 to 25, 2025. The event aims to involve academics and researchers in applied discussions on the theme of linguistic and ethnocultural diversity, as well as to encourage the development of studies related to indigenous language languages and literatures, indigenous school education and interculturality.
I CONADILE is a nationwide event that will take place in a hybrid format, respecting the following organization: (i) The works registered in the oral communication modality will take place online and in person; (ii) The lectures and round tables will take place in hybrid mode.
The realization of I CONADILE arises from the need to intensify the reflection and exchange of knowledge on linguistic and ethnocultural diversity in our universities. Although Brazil is one of the most diverse countries in the world in terms of languages and cultures, indigenous languages and other minority languages still face major challenges for their preservation, teaching and appreciation. This congress aims to fill this gap, providing a discussion forum that highlights the importance of public policies that promote the protection and strengthening of these languages and cultures, in addition to encouraging pedagogical practices that respect and value the identity of each people.
We believe that I CONADILLE will be a milestone in the promotion of an interdisciplinary discussion at the State University of Maranhão in dialogue with researchers and students from several other universities. By providing this discussion on linguistic and ethnocultural diversity, this event can also contribute to the process of revitalization and preservation of indigenous languages and to respect for the education and culture of indigenous peoples.
