The event "Breaking Barriers: A Program Between Brazil and Canada" aims to promote scientific collaboration between Brazilian and Canadian researchers, with a focus on immunological mechanisms associated with host barriers, including the skin, mucosal tissues, gastrointestinal tract, liver, and airways. The initiative seeks to foster interdisciplinary discussions on immune responses to pathogens, immune regulation, the microbiota and vaccination strategies.
The scientific program will take place over two days and will feature lectures by national and international researchers from Brazil and Canada. Topics will include cutaneous immunity in neglected tropical diseases, immune responses at mucosal barriers, immune regulation in the gut, the influence of the microbiota on the immune system and neurodevelopment and the role of myeloid cells in host defense. The event will also include short presentation sessions ("flash talks") and poster presentations, encouraging the active participation of students and early-career researchers.
The target audience includes undergraduate and graduate students, as well as researchers and faculty members working in related fields.
The event will be held on September 15–16, 2026, at UNIFESP, São Paulo, Brazil.
