The Conference Biology of Butterflies (BOB) has grown since the 1970s to become the global leading forum on Lepidoptera. For the first time, BOB will cross the South Atlantic to interact directly with the extraordinary neotropical fauna, in a special joint edition with the Neotropical Lepidoptera Meeting (ELEN), a key regional event since 2005, which returns to its origins in Campinas.
We are pleased to announce a new edition of both events: the X Biology of Butterflies (X-BOB) and the IX Neotropical Lepidoptera Meeting (IX-ELEN), to be held from March 30 to April 3, 2027, at Universidade Estadual de Campinas (UNICAMP), Campinas, São Paulo, Brazil.
This joint edition represents a historic milestone for global lepidopterology. Bringing BOB to Brazil elevates research on Lepidoptera in Latin America and highlights the Neotropical region as one of the most vibrant biodiversity hotspots on the planet.

Registration information
Registration batches and fees
Registrations will be organized into three batches, with different fees according to the registration period. Due to the physical space constraints of the venue, the number of places is limited for each category, subject to availability.
Registration fees are set in Brazilian reais (BRL). For payments made in other currencies, the final amount may vary according to the current exchange rate.
Note on the “Undergraduate Students” and “Graduate Students” categories
In addition to students regularly enrolled in undergraduate or graduate programs, people who completed an undergraduate, master’s or doctoral degree up to 2 years ago may also register in the student categories, according to the last degree obtained, provided that they do not hold a scholarship or any other type of academic funding, and have no institutional and/or employment ties.
Thus, those who completed an undergraduate degree up to 2 years ago and who are not currently enrolled in a graduate program may register in the “undergraduate student” category. Likewise, those who obtained a master’s or doctoral degree up to 2 years ago and who do not hold a scholarship or any other type of academic funding may register in the “graduate student” category.
To prove eligibility, it will be necessary to present the diploma or a document proving the last degree obtained, together with a handwritten statement attesting to the absence of a scholarship, any other type of academic funding, or institutional and/or employment ties.

Global South discount
Participants from the Global South are eligible for a 25% discount, available to the first participants to register who are AFFILIATED WITH AN INSTITUTION LOCATED IN A COUNTRY IN THE GLOBAL SOUTH*. The number of coupons is limited.
To use the discount, the participant must present a document proving their affiliation with the institution indicated. Those who have no institutional affiliation may present proof of address, together with a handwritten statement declaring that they are not affiliated with any institution. Identification documents (RG, CPF, CNH – Brazilian ID documents) are not accepted as proof of affiliation!

All registrations will be subject to verification by the organizers. If the documents presented do not confirm that the participant meets the criteria for the selected category or for the discount requested, the registration may be corrected or canceled by the organizers.
The discount coupon SOUTH2027must be entered manually at the time of payment.
Declarations must be completed by hand, so you must print, fill in and scan the form, or take a good-quality photo, before sending the document.
Registration
(Before registering, please read the instructions above)
1 - All authors must follow the complete guidelines for submission and presentation of scientific abstracts available here.
2 - Submission period: from October 1, 2026, to January 31, 2027.
3 - Abstracts will not be accepted after the submission deadline.
4 - At least one of the authors of the abstract must have their registration confirmed for X-BOB/IX-ELEN to guarantee the evaluation of the abstract and, if approved, its inclusion in the book of abstracts of the event.
5 - The X-BOB/IX-ELEN program will be limited to 54 oral presentations and 100 posters.
6 - Each registered participant may submit only one (1) abstract as first author, but may be a co-author of other abstracts.
7 - When submitting the abstract, the author must indicate which symposium the abstract fits into. If it does not fit into any of the symposia, the author may submit it in the “Other” section. This information will serve as the basis for forwarding the abstracts to the reviewers and for the organization of the symposia.
8 - Abstracts must be submitted in English and must not exceed 500 words, following this structure:
a) Abstract title (up to 20 words);
b) Abstract body (up to 500 words);
c) Keywords (three to six, in alphabetical order);
d) Funding agency(ies), if applicable.
9 - Abstracts with preliminary results will be accepted, as well as those whose results are not yet complete by the submission date.
10 - When submitting the abstract, the author must indicate, in the space provided on the website, whether they are interested in presenting in oral or poster format.
11 - All abstracts will be evaluated for scientific quality and ranked according to the following criteria:
a) Relevance/importance of the abstract in relation to its field of knowledge;
b) Suitability and relevance of the abstract in relation to the thematic symposium;
c) Merit of the abstract, quality of the data presented, clarity and objectivity of the text;
d) Compliance with formatting standards;
e) Final composition of the symposia, considering criteria of diversity and equity.
12 - In the event of a high number of abstracts submitted for oral presentation, the scientific committee will select those to be presented in this format, based on the criteria listed above. Abstracts not selected for oral presentation will be directed to poster presentation.
13 - In the event of a low number of oral presentations in any of the thematic symposia, the authors who submitted abstracts for poster presentation may be contacted by the scientific committee and consulted about the possibility of an oral presentation within one of the thematic symposia. The change to oral format will depend on the availability of slots and the author’s agreement.
14 - The selected authors will be notified by the scientific committee via email and will also be informed about the approved presentation format (oral or poster).
15 - Please note that abstracts accepted in symposia designated as English-only must be presented exclusively in English (oral or poster format). Abstracts accepted in symposia designated as Spanish, Portuguese, or English may be presented in the author’s preferred language (oral or poster format).
16 - However, to broaden the discussions during presentations at symposia that accept presentation in Spanish or Portuguese, the texts on the oral presentation slides must be in English. Poster texts may be in Spanish, Portuguese, or English, although we recommend the use of English to broaden access to information for participants.
