Presentation

The XV Latin American Workshop and Symposium on Anaerobic Digestion: Contributing to the Energy Transition and Decarbonization was held in Fortaleza, Ceará, from October 14 to 17, 2025. The main objective was to foster discussions on the latest advances and scientific and technological challenges related to anaerobic treatment of solid and liquid wastes, waste valorization, energy transition and CO2 capture, energy recovery through methane or hydrogen, recovery of nutrients and basic chemical compounds, water and sludge reuse, among other valuable products, emphasizing their contribution to the circular economy. The event also aimed to promote knowledge exchange among academia, society, government agencies, and the business sector.

The main topics covered at the event were:

  • Solid biomass digestion

  • Beyond biogas: hydrogen, Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), and recovery of high value-added chemical products
