Resumo
Artificial Intelligence (AI) has become essential for tasks such as image classification and automated analysis, speech and text recognition and generation, recommendation systems, fraud and anomaly detection, behavior prediction, process automation, and decision-support systems across various scientific and technological fields. General concepts of AI, including the fundamentals of machine learning, as well as its main approaches, challenges, and limitations, will be addressed in this presentation. Machine learning techniques are already widely employed in the analysis of biological and medical data, as well as in the characterization of conventional materials for industrial applications, including quality control and manufacturing process monitoring. However, studies exploring the use of these techniques in the analysis of images of advanced materials, particularly those used in next-generation sensors and biosensors, are still limited. In this context, recent studies investigating the application of computer vision and machine learning techniques to the processing of microscopy images of advanced materials will also be discussed, with a focus on detection and diagnostic tasks. Examples include applications aimed at the identification of biomarkers related to prostate cancer and the detection of SARS-CoV-2 sequences, using machine learning models applied to scanning electron microscopy images of genosensors. Results demonstrate promising performance, indicating that the combination of AI and image processing can achieve high detection accuracy. These advances point toward the development of more accessible and portable solutions, broadly contributing to different scientific and technological fields through the integration of advanced data acquisition techniques and artificial intelligence, enabling diagnostics and monitoring with reduced dependence on complex laboratory infrastructure.
