Summary

Access to scientific knowledge is a fundamental human right [1] and is grounded in Article 27 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights of the United Nations, which establishes that "everyone has the right freely to participate in the cultural life of the community, to enjoy the arts and to share in scientific advancement and its benefits." Furthermore, the literature indicates that schools are not able to provide all the necessary scientific education and information to citizens. Therefore, scientific dissemination contributes to critical thinking and evidence-based decision-making [2]. Access to scientific knowledge can catalyze citizenship, playing a critical role in advancing public health, reducing poverty, and promoting social progress. People need scientific information to make decisions about their lives and communities. The UNESCO General Conference adopted the UNESCO Recommendation on Open Science at its 41st session on November 23, 2021, and highlights that the dissemination of scientific information through scientific journalism, popularization of science, open lectures, and various communications on social networks, among other activities, build public trust in science and increases the involvement of social actors beyond the scientific community. Some initiatives have been created within FCT-UNESP to promote scientific outreach activities. An example is the Cienciaeponto project, created in 2020 and coordinated by Professor Dr. Priscila Alessio Constantino, which consists of using an Instagram profile (@cienciaeponto) and a YouTube channel called Cienciaeponto to create a dialogue between a group of young science communicators from the university and the population. This project produced materials such as texts, posters, videos, and interviews addressing scientific topics of interest to society. During the period of the profile's activity, which is currently inactive, it reached more than 3.5 thousand fixed followers, as well as a reach of up to 72 thousand people in specific content. Continuing the Cienciaeponto project could have a significant impact on promoting scientific literacy and increasing public engagement with science. With the collaboration of Professor Roberto M. Faria, who has extensive experience in science, and INEO, the project could expand its reach and effectiveness through innovative approaches such as podcasts, live events, and interactive workshops. With the increasing importance of science in society, it is crucial to continue to develop effective methods of communicating scientific information to the public. The Cienciaeponto project, with the potential for future growth and collaboration, can contribute to achieving this goal. ACKNOWLEDGMENT To CNPq, CAPES and FAPESP.
