Summary
In this work, the electrochemical synthesis of Poly(3-methylthiophene) (P3MT):Poly(3-hexylthiophene) (P3HT) copolymer and optical and electrical characterizations were performed. The copolymer was synthesized by chronocoulometry with a constant current of 0.02A in a solution of 0.1M lithium perchlorate as supporting electrolyte in acetonitrile and 0.1M analytes, being 0.05M of P3HT and 0.05M of P3MT. The P3MT:P3HT film was deposited on a transparent FTO (fluorine doped tin oxide) substrate. After obtaining the polymeric film, Cyclic Voltammetry (VC), UV-Vis absorption, Photoluminescence (PL), excitation photoluminescence (PLE), Emission Ellipsometry (EE), Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) and Raman Spectroscopy measurements were performed. The absorption measurement with spectrum centered at 390nm, the Optical Gap was also determined using the Kubelka-Munk method; In the photoluminescence spectra, the maximum peak energy was found between 595-615nm of the film. The process energy shift between the absorption and emission spectra (Stokes shift ) was 200nm. One sample of P3HT and another of P3MT were synthesized, both were deposited on a transparent FTO substrate, to be used in comparison with the copolymer, where the complete analysis by Raman absorption spectroscopy is being developed. The emission ellipsometry measurements are expected to indicate energy exchange between the copolymer chains. However, the P3MT:P3HT copolymer was developed by electrochemical route, its deposition on the FTO substrate was uniform making the material in possible conditions to extract the measurements and showing to be propitious for application in optoelectronic devices enhancing the electrical capabilities.
