Summary
The field of materials science and engineering is evolving dramatically as we enter the 21st century. There are currently great efforts being made to study and produce materials that can be applied, mainly in technology. With this evolution and expansion of the field, research projects cover various classes of materials and are based on experience in many different areas. In electronics, certain characteristics are necessary to explore and study materials, such as conductivity and transmittance. Conductive inks, composed of conductive materials dispersed in a polymeric matrix, create possibilities for their use in screen printing. In this context, we are looking for conductive materials based on carbon, silver and polymers that can be produced as conductive solutions [1]. Some materials are candidates to replace metallic materials, totally or partially, through the improvement of their conductivity and make them suitable, for example, in electronic devices. Carbon-based and polymer-based materials are currently being studied due their easy process and low cost. Our process consists of dispersing the materials in a polymeric matrix at different concentrations and depositing them on a glass substrate. Electrical characterizations showed a range of conductivity < 150 S/cm per square in silver inks (65% of metal), 200 - 300 S/cm in polymeric ink with 70 – 85% transmittance and a range of conductivity of 1,8x10^(-7) – 3,8 S/cm. On the other hand, we are working on the synthesis of luminescent ceramic material for the production of electroluminescent composites. Through different synthesis routes, such as Pechini method, the solid state reaction method and co-precipitation we were able to produce photoluminescent materials visible to the naked eye. Therefore, we have produced Zn2SiO4:Mn micrometric and submicrometric particles by different methods, co-precipitation and hydrothermal, and evaluated synthesis yield, photoluminescence, particle size and crystalline structure [2]. We have shown that both synthesis methods produced the material presenting a crystalline phase, with the samples synthesized by the hydrothermal method showing submicron particle yields of 12,6% and 16% and the samples produced by the coprecipitation method exhibiting photoluminescence. Towards the main objective of this study, we intend to produce conductive matrices, with different materials, with which we will produce electroluminescent composites to evaluate the influence of particle size on luminous efficacy.
