Summary
In this work, we studied Polyaniline(Pani)/Poly(3-hexylthiophene) (P3HT) interface to understand carrier behavior and the possibility of future applications in optoelectronic devices [1-3]. Pani, the emeraldine salt, was electrochemically synthesized by cyclic voltammetry in 0.3 M sulfuric acid as the supporting electrolyte in an aqueous solution on a transparent substrate of FTO (fluorine-doped titanium oxide). Then, P3HT was deposited by chronocoulometry on the PAni and, LiClO4 was used support electrolyte at a concentration of 0.3 M in acetonitrile. Spectroscopic and morphological characterizations were performed through various techniques such as UV-Vis absorption, photoluminescence (PL), photoluminescence excitation (PLE), Emission Ellipsometry (EE), Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM), and Electrochemistry Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS). A significant Stokes shift was observed, which indicates a higher probability of non-radiative transitions. In the PL spectrum of the Pani/P3HT interface, there is a more significant contribution related to the emission of pure P3HT chains. EE showed that Pani's emission is about 50% vertically polarized, which hinders energy transfer between polymeric chains, this issue polarization is maintained on the Pani/P3HT Interface. As the emission on the interface is mostly P3HT, it is concluded that there is an energy transfer from the photoexcited carriers of PAni chains to those of P3HT. In contrast, AFM shows that the PAni/P3HT interface shows irregular P3HT growth on the PAni, forming agglomerates, which at first should compromise the energy transfer via P3HT chains. EIS curves were made with models of transmission line and equivalent circuit, PAni film is better fitted with an equivalent circuit different from the P3HT and PAni/P3HT films that were better fitted with the transmission line. Finally, the interface shows promise in terms of energy transfer between the PAni and P3HT chains for future applications. Acknowledgments: CAPES, CNPq, FAPEMAT, and INEO.
