Referências BERTOLI, J., BEZERRA, E. EFFECTS OF A PILATES STUDIO PROGRAM ON QUALITY OF LIFE AND FUNCTIONAL CAPACITY OF WOMEN UNDERGOING BREAST CANCER TREATMENT Hyrllanny Pereira dos Santos¹ Andrea Dias Reis² Introduction Breast cancer is one of the most common neoplasms among women, and its treatment can cause fatigue, pain, reduced muscle strength, functional limitations, and impaired quality of life (ODYNETS et al., 2019). Physical exercise has been recommended as a complementary strategy to minimize these effects and promote functional recovery (LEITE et al., 2021). Among the modalities of physical exercise, Pilates Studio stands out for integrating muscle strengthening, flexibility, balance, and body awareness, and can contribute to the physical and emotional rehabilitation of these patients (CARRAL et al., 2018). Objective To evaluate the effects of a Pilates Studio program on quality of life, functional capacity, pain, fatigue, sarcopenia, flexibility, muscle strength, body composition, self-esteem, anxiety, and depression in women undergoing breast cancer treatment. Method This is an ongoing controlled clinical trial, approved by the Research Ethics Committee under CAAE No. 88530425.5.0000.5087, Clinical Trial NCT07599098, developed with adult women undergoing breast cancer treatment in the city of São Luís, Maranhão. Participants will be allocated to a control group and an intervention group. The intervention group will participate in a 16-week Pilates Studio program, with a frequency of three weekly sessions and a duration of 60 minutes per session. The interventions will take place in the Pilates room of the Sports Center of the Federal University of Maranhão, using specific equipment for the method, such as Cadillac, Reformer, Step Chair, Ladder Barrel, and Wall Unit. The protocol will be carried out progressively, monitored by the OMNI Rating of Perceived Exertion scale, varying from light to moderate intensity. The sessions will consist of an initial warm-up, physical exercises for strengthening, stability, mobility, and flexibility, as well as relaxation at the end of the session. The following outcomes will be assessed: quality of life using the EORTC QLQ-C30 and EORTC QLQ-BR23 questionnaires; pain using the Brief Pain Inventory; fatigue using the Piper Scale; sarcopenia using the SARC-F and SARC-Calf questionnaires; functional capacity using the six-minute walk test and the six-minute step test; muscle strength using hand dynamometry and the 30-second sit-to-stand test; flexibility using the Schober test and the Back Scratch Test; body composition using bioimpedance; self-esteem using the Rosenberg Scale; and anxiety and depression using the HADS scale. The variables will be measured at baseline, and at weeks 4, 8, 12, and 16 of the intervention. The data will be analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics, using the R software. Results and Discussion It is expected that participants undergoing the program will show improvements in quality of life, functional capacity, muscle strength, flexibility, and body composition, in addition to a reduction in pain, fatigue, anxiety, and depression. Evidence suggests that the Pilates method promotes physical and emotional benefits in women with breast cancer, favoring greater functional independence and well-being (CARRAL et al., 2018; BERTOLI et al., 2023). This study may contribute to expanding the scientific evidence on the use of Pilates Studio as a complementary strategy in cancer care, assisting healthcare professionals in implementing physical exercise programs aimed at functional rehabilitation and health promotion in this population. Conclusion Pilates Studio shows potential as a safe and effective complementary therapeutic intervention for women undergoing breast cancer treatment. It is expected that the program will contribute to improving the quality of life, functionality, and physical and emotional health of the participants. Therefore, this study may strengthen the use of physical exercise as a strategy for health promotion and rehabilitation in the oncological context. References BERTOLI, J., BEZERRA, E.
