Resumo

Wine production in Uruguay have been deeply gendered over their entire history. The aim of this paper is to identify and describe gender inequalities in wine production in Uruguay. The methdodology used consisted of processing official statistics (MGAP and INAVI) and conducting semi-structured interviews with 15 women involved in grape production and the wine industry. The results show the persistence of hierarchical gender inequalities. In the male-dominated world of uruguayan winemaking, women experience gender-based violence and face multiple barriers such as limited land ownership, lack of acces to capital and financial resources, and work segreggation, male-dominated production organizations, and difficulties in coordinating work within the value chain and women's caregiving responsibilities.
