Resumo

This paper describes and analyses the relations between access and rights to water and land, and collective action in the politics of agroecological transitions in Chile. Empirically, we focus on the province of Petorca in Northern Chile and the municipality of San Nicolás in Southern Chile. The more specific objectives of the paper are: 1) to explain agroecological transformations unfolding in Chile to provide empirical evidence about collective action for sustainable food security using agroecology in times of uncertainties and crises, 2) to provide a better understanding of the opportunities that exist for new approaches to sustainable food security and sovereignty based on agroecology, and, 3) to offer an analysis of the institutional and political barriers for agroecology-based food security, using participatory methods for a more effective engagement of farmers in policymaking.
