Resumo

This study aims to analyze how the actions of the Peasant Women’s Movement (MMC) contribute to territorial transformation and sustainable regional development, considering women’s empowerment and agroecology as central axes. It is based on the understanding that rural women have historically faced productive invisibility, gender inequalities, and limited access to resources, land, and decision-making spaces, which directly affects the social and economic dynamics of rural territories. Methodologically, this is a qualitative bibliographic study grounded in works on gender, empowerment, social movements, peasant feminism, and agroecology. Academic studies and MMC documents were analyzed in order to identify how the organizational and productive practices of peasant women interact with processes of autonomy, resistance, and the construction of alternatives to the hegemonic agribusiness model. The results show that the empowerment promoted by the MMC occurs across multiple dimensions — personal, collective, and structural — strengthening political participation, valuing women’s knowledge, and reshaping social relations in rural areas. Agroecology emerges as a central strategy in this process, linking the production of healthy food, preservation of creole seeds, care for biodiversity, and the construction of solidarity markets. These practices expand women’s economic autonomy and contribute to redefining territory as a space of life, identity, and resistance. It is concluded that the protagonism of peasant women organized within the MMC goes beyond punctual claims, constituting a transformative force capable of promoting inclusive, sustainable, and socially just territorial development, while also challenging patriarchal structures and strengthening new forms of social organization in rural contexts.
