Resumo

This paper aims to present and analyze a bibliometric survey of Brazilian academic production in the field of gender and rurality studies between 2010 and 2025, highlighting the thematic, empirical, and social diversity that characterizes this research agenda. The study is grounded in the understanding that this body of research produces a significant set of empirical and analytical evidence capable of challenging classical categories in rural sociology. The method consists of a systematic mapping of 176 scientific articles published in 69 national journals, with data collection and organization focused on year of publication, disciplinary fields of the journals, social categories studied, regions of empirical focus, predominant themes, and institutional authorship patterns. The analysis adopts a bibliometric approach, combined with an interpretive reading of thematic axes, enabling the identification of trends, gaps, and convergences within the field. The results reveal a robust interdisciplinary production, strongly articulated with feminist studies in the social sciences and other disciplines, and in close dialogue with collective health and feminist economics. The literature shows wide diversity in the social groups investigated, including rural women, agrarian reform settlers, peasants, quilombola communities, riverine populations, and Indigenous peoples. There is also an empirical concentration in territories marked by the presence of social movements and traditional communities, as well as a prevalence of themes related to work, health, care, economy, and socio-environmental dynamics. This accumulation of research provides an empirical and analytical repertoire that problematizes classical assumptions of rural sociology, particularly those based on rigid dichotomies between rural and urban, agricultural and non-agricultural. By highlighting the diversity of themes, subjects, and territories studied, the mapped production points to the need for an epistemological renewal of rural studies, opening space for interpretations of the rural as a relational and hybrid phenomenon, shaped by gender, race, and territorial dimensions.
