Resumo

The food sovereignty movement is a global and local reality, constituting a global movement capable of confronting the dominant food system with a counter-hegemonic proposal and defending rural territories. In each territory and region, the movement responds to the characteristics and needs of its actors. This paper analyzes the organizations that comprise the food sovereignty movement in Spain during the period 2020-2024. Through a content analysis of the social media profiles of 207 organizations within the food sovereignty movement (107 organizations composed of producers and 99 organizations not primarily composed of producers), information was gathered on the following elements: 1) the specific framework used by the Spanish Food Movement for Food Sovereignty, 2) different basic characteristics of its organizations (social base, type of collective, territorial scale, temporal evolution, vision/mission, management and marketing practices), 3) its political framework with respect to the terms and practices of food sovereignty, peasantry, and agroecology, 4) its forms of political action and articulation, 5) its gender and feminist perspective, and 6) the political potential of the organizations as a food social movement. The Spanish food sovereignty movement is framed within a critique of the current agri-food model and adopts agroecology as a unifying concept. This movement is structured as a "multitude" without forming a stable "composition" or "apparatus" with a common strategy for collective action. Within this movement, there is a wide diversity of actors, including a group of producer organizations with a high potential for political activism in defending their interests and for participating and playing a leading role in the food sovereignty movement.
