Resumo

This presentation investigates how the Canadian model of supply management allows the dairy and egg sectors to invest in their industries in the form of progressive programs and the most current technologies. This allows them to perform at a very high level in terms of technology, environmental sustainability, animal welfare and generational renewal, making these Canadian sectors sustainable. As well, it will link Canadian performance and productivity in dairy and eggs to superior on-farm performance more generally through a comparison with those sectors in Australia and the US. The presentation will speak to issues raised in WG 24 such as food systems/production governance across scales, it will analyze institutions, address power dynamics and rules while empowering diverse voices in strengthening governance at all levels.
