Summary
This study focuses on improving acoustic insulation in floors of gym areas within residential buildings, where noise complaints are common due to dropped dumbbells, treadmill use, and weight machines. The ABNT NBR 15575 standard, updated in 2021, is the performance standard that sets acoustic criteria for residential buildings. It requires that the weighted impact sound pressure level, LnT,w, between gym areas (above) and bedrooms (below) should not exceed 55 dB. However, even when this guideline is met, residents continue to report discomfort due to noise. To evaluate and enhance the insulation, the study uses ABNT NBR 10152:2017, which provides a measurement methodology and evaluation parameters for the acoustic comfort of internal environments in buildings, including bedrooms. The research tests various floating floor systems, including both conventional solutions and cost-effective alternatives. Prototypes (mock-ups) are created, and tests are conducted that simulate impact, using standard-weight apparatuses dropped from a controlled distance. The results of the different floor systems will be compared to identify the most effective solution for reducing noise in gym areas above bedrooms.
