Summary
Noise mapping is one of the primary tools for assessing and mitigating urban noise pollution, as vehicular traffic is the leading source of environmental noise in cities. This study focuses on the municipality of Arapiraca, a medium-sized city of economic significance in the state of Alagoas, Brazil. The main objective of this research is to map traffic noise in Brasília neighborhood. The methodology consists of four key stages: (1) data collection, (2) monitoring of sound pressure levels, (3) development of the traffic noise map, and (4) analysis of the results. The results highlight significant challenges in the study area, such as narrow streets with heavy traffic and the exposure of noise-sensitive structures. This research is expected to contribute to the development of urban acoustic planning strategies, serving as a basis for future interventions in the city.
