Summary
By understanding the requirements of integrity in heritage protection outlined in the "Venice Charter," research on serial heritage should not remain confined to individual studies of heritage elements. Instead, it should adopt a holistic perspective, conducting comprehensive analysis and research on the entire series of heritage. This article takes the heritage of the Maritime Silk Road in Zhangzhou City as an example. It gathers data on heritage sites from historical documents, online resources, and other sources. Following the classification of Silk Road heritage as outlined in the "Silk Roads: An ICOMOS Thematic Study," the information is divided into six categories: production of goods, military defense, transportation, commercial trade, administrative management, and religious belief. A total of 421 related heritage sites are extracted. Based on the World Heritage criteria (ii), (iii), and (iv) – functional relevance, uniqueness, and comprehensiveness of the Maritime Silk Road heritage – a value evaluation system is constructed. Using the CRITIC weighting method, the heritage sites of the Maritime Silk Road in Zhangzhou are graded into four levels. The overall distribution of the series heritage shows an expansion pattern from coastal areas to inland regions and from urban centers to rural areas, fully reflecting Zhangzhou's core position and cultural connotation as a trade node on the Maritime Silk Road. Based on the research results, this paper proposes suggestions such as optimizing the application list, implementing graded protection and resource development, and enhancing spatial integration and coordinated development of heritage sites. The aim is to provide scientific evidence and practical paths for the integrity protection and application for World Cultural Heritage status of Zhangzhou's Maritime Silk Road heritage.
