Summary
The Jiahu site is a Neolithic Peiligang culture site that dates from 9,000 to 7,700 years ago. It is one of the earliest civilizations in China and has great historical and cultural value. According to research, the Jiahu site is both a settlement and a village, and it continues to be Jiahu Village to this day. The settlement's ring trench evolved into today's cofferdam. Since floods occur frequently here, local villagers have traditional wisdom to fight against natural disasters. The Jiahu village’s structure has important value. Therefore, the protection of the site should not only focus on the site itself, but also need to consider the environment and structure as well. For example, the Jiahu villagers should serve as the protectors and stakeholders of the site, so as to preserve the structure of Jiahu Village. This meets with UNESCO’s latest requirements for heritage protection. This article sorts out the strategies of the Jiahu Heritage Museum from the initial planning stage to the operation, which are mainly divided into four sections, conservation planning strategies coordinated with village and its surroundings, design strategies for the balance between village cultural center and museum, construction strategies for villagers' public participation in museum construction, and operation strategies for villagers as museum staff. The above strategies aim to provide new ideas for the protection and utilization of large rural heritage sites, and to promote rural development while protecting culture.
