Why BR-UAM?

BR-UAM Project Kickoff Meeting
The BR-UAM Project Kickoff Meeting marks the starting point for the collaborative construction of a new mobility paradigm in Brazilian airspace. As a result of the joint coordination between the Department of Airspace Control (DECEA) and the National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC), this event represents the convergence of public institutions, private companies, academia and industry around a common goal: to enable, in a safe and efficient way, the integration of Urban Air Mobility (UAM) operations in Brazil, with emphasis on the use of electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft.

What is BR-UAM?

BR-UAM is a strategic project that aims to establish the operational, normative and technological bases for Urban Air Mobility in the country. Its central guideline is formalized in the PCA 351-7, published by DECEA in November 2024, a document that presents the national operational conception of the UAM, establishing guidelines for the restructuring of airspace, progressive use of innovative technologies and maintenance of the high safety standards of the Brazilian Airspace Control System (SISCEAB). In turn, ANAC, the authority responsible for the certification and regulation of civil aviation, actively participates in the standardization and inspection of vehicles, operators and vertiports, and is also the bridge between technological innovation and the legal frameworks of the sector

Objectives of BR-UAM

  • Present the scope of the BR-UAM project, its technical and legal foundations;

  • Level knowledge among the different agents of the ecosystem: operators, manufacturers, airports, technology companies, universities, and representatives of society;

  • Strengthen collaboration between the sectors involved, focusing on building joint solutions and future operational tests;

  • Promote the formation of thematic working groups and subgroups, with the active participation of institutional and technical representatives, for the collaborative development of regulation, proposals, pilot projects and mechanisms for the progressive implementation of Urban Air Mobility in Brazil.

  • Stimulate the exchange of experiences with international initiatives, highlighting good practices and reference models;

  • Discuss the social, economic and environmental benefits of the use of eVTOL aircraft in the urban context, without losing sight of the positive impacts that the project can also generate for helicopter aviation and other low-altitude operations.
